GLASGOW City Council has let down hundreds of families by refusing to allow children to join in the Tartan Party at Glasgow Green on Saturday.

This is absolutely appalling - this event was supposed to focus on families! There are plenty of pubs across Glasgow to accommodate the adults. Where are the kids supposed to go? This is a classic case of discrimination, if you ask me.

According to reports in the Evening Times last week there was supposed to be a limited number of tickets for children at a cost of £5, so why all of a sudden has this changed?

I think it is a disgrace. Lynn Maley, Glasgow Bugged by computers

IN the Gorbals Learning Centre, all Applemac computers and scanners have been inoperable and unavailable for the past three to four months. This happened once before, just over a year ago, and we were without the computers for 10 weeks.

A supervisor informs us that she has no idea when the machines will be brought back into use.

This situation is wasteful and unacceptable. Staff at the centre are obviously incapable of maintaining the system. At present the GLC is the only public library and learning centre in Glasgow which has Applemacs. Raibert, Via e-mail Court clanger

IT appears to me the Sherriff Court in Glasgow needs to be brought into the 21st century.

In the last few days, a friend of mine received a citation to attend for jury service. The only problem is that my friend is 85, and holds a lifetime exemption from further jury service because he was a juror on the Manuel trial. A letter has been written to the court informing them of this.

In this day and age of computer technology, surely birthdates must be on a database so that anyone over the age of 65 is automatically taken off.

This situation is a complete waste of taxpayers' money, and it is also alarming to someone of this age to receive such a notice. Come on, Sherriff Court, get your act together. I Smith, via e-mail Tenants pay their way

J PUNCHCLOCK (Evening Times, November 7) claims taxpayers are subsidising council tenants.

Council tenants are not subsidised by council or any other tax, which in fact, they also pay. The reverse is nearer the truth.

Through their rents, they have subsidised Right to Buy. They subsidise other council departments through inflated central service charges, they subsidise environmental maintenance and improvement in council estates and they pay for unadopted roads and footpaths etc.

In fact, council landlords often see the Housing Revenue Account (tenants rents) as a piggy bank, to be raided to subsidise General Fund obligations.

IT IS great news that finally we will get some much-needed improvements made to the city Subway.

Let's hope that the opening times are modernised as well; no more 6pm finishes on a Sunday please!

The Commonwealth Games will be a great lever for getting investment into the city.

Time to buy an East End flat? Bobby Brown, Gotham City Roll out new rolling stock

THE Subway news is great for supporters like me for getting to Celtic Park, but what happened to the plans of doing the trains up?

I had the misfortune of getting the subway a few weeks ago. What a ramshackle operation! John MacLean, Glasgow Late-night service needed

GOOD news for those in the East End. Just hope extending the network will mean they will extend the operating hours. Mr K, Paisley Games was clincher

THIS is great news for the city. OK, the fact we won the Games helped. I'm sure the current Subway will be upgraded. However, I don't expect new trains to appear overnight. Subway User, Hillhead Air rail link is a must

GREAT news and we must get the airport train link up and running. It's important for the city's economy. It's a must. Jim, Glasgow Future looking brighter

WELL done SPT! I'm sure it will be a success considering that there will be lots of housebuilding going on in Parkhead and Dalmarnock, so people will need to commute. This is the future, not for now or for 2014. The Missing City, Glasgow Passengers need a say

I AM glad that the city may well be getting an extension to the Subway system.

However, there are issues which SPT need to address. There needs to be a robust process for consulting and involving passengers as part of this development.

SPT do not have the best track record of making the right decisions from a passenger perspective. Hugo, South Side Clock-on to longer hours

FOR a Subway fit for the 21st century staff must also be brought into the 21st century and be prepared to work much later operating hours. Pete, Bearsden
