THREE wins will guarantee Forest Green a play-off semi-final shoot-out.

With three games to go, Ady Pennock’s side are just two points behind rivals Macclesfied, who they entertain at the New Lawn on Saturday, 3pm.

Rovers’ final furlong will also see the Nailsworth side travel to Gateshead on Saturday, April 18 and finish the season at home to Dover Athletic on Saturday, April 25.

They jumped back into the play-offs with an emphatic 4-1 Easter Monday victory at Chester City, following a 3-1 Good Friday home loss to Aldershot Town.

Rovers have now amassed a club record 72 points - a point more than Jim Harvey’s 2007/08 side.

Jon Parkin bagged a brace, including a penalty, to take his goal haul to 27. In-form winger Elliott Frear found the net for the third game running within 23 first half minutes.

Chester substitute John Rooney’s free-kick on the cusp of the interval gave his side a lifeline, but Aarran Racine struck the killer fourth after the break.

Pennock insists the season will go to the wire as he turns his thoughts to the proverbial six-pointer against Macclesfield.

He said: “It is now about us just winning games and Saturday is a big game for us against Macclesfield, I certainly believe we will see plenty more twists, turns, swings and roundabouts.

The Forest Green boss was delighted with his side’s showing at Chester and reserved special praise for Parkin.

“We showed a lot of character at Chester on Monday, in the first half we came out of the traps really well.

“Jon Parkin was top class, I think he was unlucky with the one that was offside, but what a finish it was. I was desperate for him to get a hat-trick because he deserved it.”
