HE'S widely acknowledged to be one of the greatest talents to grace the Kingsholm turf, and that will be confirmed on Saturday when James Simpson-Daniel joins the ranks of former greats in the Legend's Lounge.

Sinbad, as he is affectionately known by one and all, caught the eye from the very first time he pulled on a Gloucester shirt, scoring a superb individual try against Rotherham on his debut.

A one club man, his career spanned 14 seasons in the Cherry and White of Gloucester. He went on to make 272 competitive appearances for Glouecster, scoring 118 tries in the process.

He scored a superb try against the Barbarians early in his international career where with some deft handling and footwork he rounded Jonah Lomu in front of a packed Twickenham crowd to serve notice of his talent at the highest level.

However, due to untimely injury and illness, his England career was restricted to just ten caps, a total that simply doesn't do justice to a player possessing the natural gifts that he did.

But England's loss was certainly Gloucester's gain, and James Simpson-Daniel will always be fondly thought of by the Kingshom faithful and his ascension to Legends status was always a mere formality.

He will attend Saturday's Aviva Premiership game against Newcastle Falcons with his family, and his commemorative plaque, featuring one of the lucky socks that he wore throughout his career, will be unveiled.

Gloucester Rugby CEO Stephen Vaughan confirmed that Simpson-Daniel's inclusion was an easy and popular decision.

"When you speak to supporters and former players and ask them about who would make their greatest ever Gloucester XV, there aren't many players who would be a near unanimous choice. However, James Simpson-Daniel is one of those players.

"It's fair to say that we may never see his like again on a rugby pitch, he truly was a unique talent and his position as a Legend in the long and proud history of Gloucester Rugby is assured.”
