SHORTWOOD footballer Luke Benneyworth swapped his studs for spikes to club an unbeaten ton for Stroud, who made it back-to-back Gloucestershire Division wins.

Benneyworth smashed 101 not out in a total of 243 for four - before Gloucester AIW Sports were restricted to 211 for eight in response.

Earlier, Stroud’s Chris Job (8) was caught at slip. Alistair Bell(16) soon followed.

However, captain Leighton Collins (18) and Benneyworth began to rebuild the innings.

Former captain Paul Frape (30) then played some lovely shots.

Matt Smith joined Benneyworth and smashed some lusty blows. In the 49th over he brought up his 50 and Benneyworth reached his century as the pair carried their bats for 101 and 52 respectively.

In reply, Will Golding and Chris Dutton both moved the ball around with accuracy and with some unorthodox stroke play Stroud stuck to the task and began to take wickets at regular intervals.

A good catch in the deep by Chris Job off Golding, soon followed a very sharp stumping from Bell off Chris Dutton. It was Dutton, who produced the ball of the day to clean bowl AIW’s number four for a ducks AIW’s captain played a sensible innings without threatening Stroud’s total to edge them to 211-8 from 50overs.

Dutton (2-24), Golding (2-28), James Job (2-41), Chris Job (1-36) and Frape (1-29) were the wicket takers.

Stroud travel to undefeated Lydney on Saturday.
