FORMER Forest Green striker James Norwood is confident he will make a big splash at Tranmere Rovers.

Norwood,24, the Nailsworth club’s all-time leading scorer in the Conference, penned a two-year contract following his release by Forest Green after four seasons at the New Lawn.

Norwood told the Liverpool Echo: “I love the pressure of having to score goals, having to play well. I think I will thrive under that.

“If you’re doing well with a big club, it gets you noticed and the fans appreciate you more.

“It is either sink or swim and I think I will definitely swim.”

Norwood spent two days talking over a two-year contract with Tranmere manager Gary Brabin and chairman Mark Palios.

“This is a massive club,” Norwood added. “That’s come home to me in the couple of days I have been here. The club has come down from League One in the last couple of years and it’s a great challenge to get back.

“I’ve seen the stadium and the plans for the future. It is all very exciting. I am committed to making this work.

“Gary Brabin has told me the role he wants me to play in the team and I think it will suit me perfectly. I’m looking forward to it. Gary knows this division well and had success with Luton and Cambridge.”

Brabin, who took up the role last week, said: "I'm delighted to make James my first signing.

"He was someone I knew I wanted to bring to the club the day I became manager.

“He’s got a good scoring record in the Conference and I know he can get better.

"But he’s got more than goals to his game, he’s someone who will work his socks off up front and make life difficult for the opposition.

"He had interest from League One and League Two clubs but he wanted to be a part of our plans here and I’m really pleased to be able to add him to my squad."
