ELECTRIC land speed record holder Nick Ponting will be back in action this weekend, competing in the BRSCC Mazda MX5 Championship at Castle Combe.

The 24-year-old smashed the electric land speed record at Elvington airfield in September 2012 in the Ecotricity Nemesis, built and inspired by eco-energy tycoon Dale Vince.

He said:“We’ve done a really late deal but to pull it all together is brilliant. I’ll be running with 8 x champions Blendini Motorsport so I’ve got no excuses but to perform.”

Ponting will be testing at Castle Combe prior to next Mondays race event to build up valuable track time.

“We’re testing a few days before to get to grips with the car and get it set up well for Monday. According to the championship organisers there’s going to be around 48 cars on the grid so the racing should be pretty exciting.”

The BRSCC Mazda MX5 Championship travels across the country visiting Silverstone, Brands Hatch and many more circuits. Ponting hopes this one off event at Castle Combe will lead to a longer term deal with the team in the future.

The Cheltenham-born racing driver has vast experience in motorsport and began racing karts aged eight before moving into car racing aged 14. He was selected by BMW UK as a finalist in the Formula BMW Scholarship and has since been involved in other championships across the UK.

“This wouldn’t have been doable without the support from my family and sponsors, Milltek Sport, Fasit Security, Sky Lanterns Online, Bryway builders, CR Signs and Gloucestershire Property Online. I’d be making sure I do them proud on race day.”
