JONNY May could be England’s X-factor at the upcoming World Cup according to international team-mate Ben Foden.

May, who has notched three tries at international level, was last week named as part of head coach Stuart Lancaster’s 50-man squad for the pre-competition training camps.

The Gloucester winger has impressed for both club and country this term – scoring the extra-time try that ensured the Cherry & Whites beat Connacht in their Champions Cup play-off last weekend.

But despite his considerable talents, Foden claims the 25-year-old will still face a fight to secure a starting slot.

“When you’ve got a guy like Jonny May, he has got something that you can’t teach – that is just speed and the ability to beat someone one-on-one,” said the full-back.

“As a winger, he’s the guy who you want the ball in the hands of in the last play of the game, with ten metres on the outside.

“It’s good to have those sort of guys in your team and I think we have that in abundance with guys like Jonathan Joseph, Kyle Eastmond, [Jack] Nowell and Anthony Watson.

“They are people who can create something out of nothing and turn a game on its head and Jonny is someone who comes under that category.

“It’s going to be difficult for those guys though because I‘m not sure how many back three players we will take, so it will be very competitive.”

May won’t be the only one hoping to get in on the World Cup action, with Foden helping launch Emirates’, an Official Worldwide Partner for Rugby World Cup 2015, Find the Flag competition.

Emirates will be challenging teenagers in host cities around England and Wales to find a hidden flag, and Foden is urging youngsters up and down the country to grab the opportunity with both hands.

“The Emirates ‘Find a Flag’ campaign is brilliant because it’s aiming at 14-16 year olds, getting them involved in rugby and inspiring a generation of young people to get involved with the World Cup,” he added.

“Maybe we could even see a few of those faces in the white shirt of England in the future.

“There are 11 host cities, each with their own flag and we’re encouraging all 14-16 year olds to get out there, find the flag, take a selfie with it and post it to social media – it’s great.”

Emirates ‘Find the Flag’ competition is encouraging young fans to celebrate rugby coming to their home city. By locating the hidden flag and sharing a selfie, fans will have the opportunity to win the chance to be an official Flag Bearer at Rugby World Cup 2015.
