KARL BROWN and Steven Croft hit half-centuries as Lancashire battled their way to 190 for seven at tea on the opening day of the LV=County Championship match with Gloucestershire at Bristol.
Invited to bat first in bright sunshine, the visitors were kept in check by an accurate home seam attack in which Craig Miles excelled. By tea the 20-year-old had figures of five for 45 from 18 overs.
It was 65 for three at lunch, after which opener Brown moved to a patient 57, from 109 deliveries, with 10 fours, before being bowled by Miles.
Croft reached a 68-ball half-century, featuring 9 fours, and then fell to the same bowler for 67, lbw on the back-foot.
Matt Taylor (two for 41) offered good support for Miles. Geraint Jones was forced to take over the wicketkeeping duties for Gloucestershire in afternoon session as Gareth Roderick was forced off by a hand injury.
