HARTPURY golfer Tom Davies will be heading to Scandinavia next month after being selected to represent Wales at the European Boys Team Championship.

Davies will be jetting out to Finland as part of a six-strong team as he looks to carry his Hartpury form on to the international stage in the competition at Pickala Golf Club from July 7th to 11th, with the Welsh contingent looking to improve on last year’s eighth place finish.

The 17-year-old will be hoping to emulate his strong performances at both the British Schools and Colleges Tour (BSCT) and Intercollegiate Tour (ICT) National Finals, where he helped Hartpury secure the team title at the former event while producing a second place individual finish at the latter.

Davies will be following in the footsteps of former Hartpury student, Jamie Dick, who competed at last year’s European Team Championship and helped England to fourth position in the final standings.

Hartpury’s golf academy manager, Rich King, said: “Tom has had a strong season for us and has been in very good form at the final events we have had recently. He’s an exceptional talent and hopefully he can continue his run of impressive performances with another strong display at the European Team Championships.”

Another five Hartpury students are also in action next Monday (22nd June) at the English Schools Golf Association (ESGA) National Championship finals.

Alex Chalk, Joe Harvey and Alex Ireland will be amongst the 51-strong field of golfers from across the country in the Boys’ Championship while the female duo of Tara Rodenhurst and Victoria Wakeley-Jones will be up against a further 25 golfers in the Girls’ Championship at Peterborough Milton Golf Club, Cambridgeshire.

“It’s great to see so many of our students qualify for a prestigious competition like the National Championship and hopefully they can produce strong rounds to put themselves in contention for honours,” King added.
