THE Gloucestershire ladies’ golf team won the South West Inter Counties’ Match Week, held at Minchinhampton Golf Club (New Course), for the fifth consecutive year – defeating all five opposing counties.

The team now progresses to the national finals to be held at Frilford Heath Golf Club, Oxfordshire, in September.

County captain Corrinne Durber, herself a Minchinhampton member, said: "Our attention to foursomes play and pairings in training paid dividends as, in the 15 foursomes matches played, we lost only two and halved one.

"The team's overall performance was impeccable. We all have so much passion for the game, and a very strong will to win.

"This South West County Week, being held on home turf at Minchinhampton, was special in that it gave our county members a chance to watch and support their team. It was good to be able to prove that their subscriptions, which pay for our team training, is money well spent."

Among the supporters was former county player, now Ladies European Tour professional Charlotte Ellis.

MONDAY: Gloucestershire 5.5 Cornwall 3.5

MINCHINHAMPTON players Grace McLaughlin and Charlotte Heeps record a splendid 3&2 victory and Jane Rees made it a good day for the home club when winning her singles by the same margin.

THIS time the morning foursome went to the opposition but a superb afternoon including vital singles halves for Ali Kelly and Jane Rees saw Gloucestershire over the line.
