MICHAEL Klinger will on Sunday be playing a T20 game at Stone CC alongside a strong Gloucestershire team containing eight first team regulars.

The Australian, who is still hoping to play a role in the Ashes tour for his country, will join Hamish Marshall, Liam Norwell, Chris Dent, Will Tavare, Jack Taylor and Gareth Roderick for the game, which starts at 2.30pm. Fast bowler David Payne is in the squad as a specialist batter, while Bristol rugby captain Mark Sorensen and fly half Adrian Jarvis will also play.

The match is in aid of the benefit year for New Zealand international Marshall, who has played for the county for ten years.

He said: “Stone are top of their league so I thought it important to bring a strong side to give them a decent game. We lost the last time we were up here, so want to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“We’re always well-treated at Stone and love playing here. We’re looking forward to a fun afternoon and a competitive game of cricket.

Hamish will be coaching the club’s youngsters at 12,30pm, before joining players from both teams for a sit-down lunch at 1pm. Tickets for the game cost £5 and are available on the gate. The Stone XI will include players from Cam, Rockhampton and Oldlands.

If it rains, Hamish and the other players will take part in a question and answer session in the marquee at 2.30pm. They will also be available to chat to fans and sign autographs throughout the game.

Stone CC vice chair Tim Lezard said: “We’re very grateful to Hamish for bringing such a strong side on Sunday. I’m looking forward, in particular, to seeing Chris Dent steaming in to bowl and Liam Norwell opening the batting.”
