FAMILY is a key ingredient in the process of nurturing sporting talent.

The Frapwell clan have it in spades. Mother and son, Sally and Jordan, along with father and mentor Chris, are flying to Geneva to take part in the European Triathlon Championships on Friday.

They will be joined in Switzerland by Stroud Athletic club team-mates Dot Liviabella, Gwen Kinsey and Ian Roberts.

Jordan said: “Mum’s swimming has come along loads in the past year and I am really proud of her.

“The same goes for Dad, he still juggles coaching with his own sporting endeavours, notably qualifying for the European Duathlon Championships earlier in the season, but unfortunately took a nasty fall on his bike, which led to him not being able to compete.”

Jordan hopes the international success at Stroud will inspire people to take up athletics.

He added: “I really hope people get inspired by what everyone has done at our club, this is proved by Dot Liviabella, Gwen Kinsey and Ian Roberts.

“It really is fantastic that the majority of guys in our club are making the jump across to triathlon now.

“We all lead busy lives and it goes to show no matter your age you can strive to achieve great things and I am more than happy to give advice to people eager to get involved.” Jordan has also qualified in both the sprint and standard distance for the World Championships in Chicago this September.
