GWEN Kinsey bagged gold at the European Sprint Triathlon AC Championships held in Geneva.

The Stroud AC star won her 40-44 age category and was fifth woman overall.

She was first in the swim, one and a half minutes ahead of eventual second place GB athlete Tanya Brightwell.

Kinsey held off Brightwell in the 20km bike, coming into transition just ahead of the second athlete.

“She has really only been cycling this year and produced a gutsy ride on a tri -race prepared Orbea Orca” said Luke Hodgkins,The Bike Works mechanic.

"She entered transition neck and neck with her nearest rival and was slightly ahead out of transition facing the final 5K run.

"As always Gwen did a stunning run to finish first in one hour 13 minutes and 22 seconds, two minutes twenty three seconds ahead of Tanya.

"GB athletes filled all the podium places in the 40-44 age category with a German athlete coming fourth.

"If that wasn’t enough Gwen was fifth overall in a field of 268 athletes only a minute and 48 seconds behind winning 20 -24 age group athlete from Poland.

"It was an amazing event and an inspiration to keep fit at whatever age. There were competitors in the women's event in the 70-74 age group and a Russian male athlete in the 80 plus age group."
