Lydney 1

Shortwood United 1

FORMER Bristol Rovers striker Joe White grabbed late parity for Shortwood United in their pre-season friendly at Hellenic Premier Division newcomers Lydney.

White, son of former Swindon Town and Charlton striker Steve, grabbed his goal 10 minutes from the end.

Defensively Wood look well set but there was a lack of penetration up front especially in the first half.

Ex-Wood keeper Rich Thomas was only called upon to save a shot from a narrow angle and the returning Tom King was also rarely troubled. Tim Haddock had a couple of shots that went wide and might have done better with a header.

The game opened up a bit more in the second half and both Jake Lee and Jake Parrott had early shots blocked.

Lydney took the lead after 66 minutes. A poor pass was intercepted and Lydney created a good move down the right before Kerry Hale curled a good shot past King.

King then made a fine reaction save to turn away another Hale shot – while Thomas was forced to keep out efforts from White and Matt Bennett.

Thomas again saved from White before the Wood man levelled with 10 minutes to go as he found space inside the box to shoot home off the post.

Wood might have won it  three minutes from the end.

An excellent run from James Singh left White in space but he delayed too long and the chance was gone.

SHORTWOOD: King, Rawlings, Humphreys, Halford, Peare, Hancock, Parrott, Singh, Lee, White, Cant, Meredith, Haddock, Bennett, Taylor.
