Shortwood.... 2
SHORTWOOD stalwart Tim Haddock netted a wonder free-kick as the Nailsworth side return to winning ways, writes Jim Cunneen.
In-form striker Jake Lee scored the other goal to delight joint-manager John Evans.
“We killed them off early and put in a thoroughly professional performance,” said Evans.
Shortwood were dealt a blow before the kick - off when striker James Singh strained a calf in the pre- match warm up.
The game could not have started better for the Wood. With one minute gone midfielder Jake Parrott swung in a cross which Haddock met at the far post with a powerful header for Lee to bundle the ball over the line.
Six minutes later and Haddock made it 2-0.He spotted Mowthorpe off his line and sent a superb free-kick fizzing in from just inside the Totton half.
The second half was a fractious affair. Lee forced Mowthorpe into a save and Matt Bennett fired over.
It was 64 minutes before Shortwood keeper Tom King was forced to turn away a low drive from Watts.
SHORTWOOD: King, Rawlings, Humphreys, Lewis, Haddock, Hancock, White (Cant 78), Parrott, Lee, Price, Bennett (Peare 80).
Star Men: Tim Haddock and Jake Lee.
