"IT is a very average league - there are no stand out teams". I heard those very words on Monday at the New Lawn.

There is a simple response to such a view. Look in the paper. There you will see clear evidence of a stand-out team. Played seven, won seven. You cannot do better than that, and of course that team is our very own Forest Green Rovers.

The 2-1 win against Bromley was the hardest game so far. In an exhilarating contest Bromley always caused Rovers problems. Set up to counter attack they did exactly that but with Super-Ted Maxted in fine form just one goal was given away. Two untidy goals gave us a victory that was just about deserved.

It came at a cost. Dale Bennet broke his nose, and suffering from double vision had to be substituted as did full-back James Jennings who suffered a tweaked hamstring. Perhaps the strongest ever bench that Rovers have ever fielded provided first class alternatives. Charlie Clough and Darren Jones filled the gaps admirably.

Without midfield dynamo Rob Sinclair, Rovers were not as dominant as they can be but the character of the squad shone through. Everyone played their part as they have done all season. Kurtis Guthrie, one of the heroes of the season was also missing and my view much missed. I hope to see him return refreshed for the trip to Chester.

The visit to Kidderminster was a joy. What a warm welcoming club they are, supplying the media with orange squash, cups of tea and a complimentary programme. Do we give the same impression to visiting media?

Rovers dominated the game and with more sharpness in front of goal could have scored half a dozen. The home team were never allowed to settle and despite a steady performance from Jared Hodgkiss.

It was a joy to see substitute Jon Parkin score the second goal with his first touch.

As he entered the fray the home crowd criticised his diet and questioned his parentage. After he had scored with a soaring leap and fine header he celebrating by putting his hands to his ears inviting the fans to continue their criticism. They did not! Jon had responded in the perfect way.

Keanu Marsh-Brown scored our first goal with a fierce drive from an Elliott Frear cross. The Non League paper said he side footed it in Nonsense! During the game he showed sublime skill and a new shout rang out from the terraces, "Kee-al-Nu" We shall hear it regularly throughout the season.

The two results this weekend bring just one problem Manager Ady will surely be named manager of the month, which we all know is a poison chalice. Surely Ady, sporting a new smart hair cut can rise above such superstitions.

It isn't just the welcome and the hospitality that makes Kidderminster so pleasant a ground to visit. The pre-match music reminds me of the days I was in my prime. "I'm into something good" sang Herman Hermits. The Dave Clark Five added they were "Glad all over". Those words spoke for us all. No outstanding teams - what rubbish!
