WINNING the monthly manager of the month prize is often perceived as the beginning of the end for league form.
But Forest Green Rovers boss Ady Pennock was having none of the old curse as his side made it a league record-breaking eighth successive win to maintain the leaders’ sensational start to the season.
With the Vanarama National League gong for August in the Pennock trophy cabinet, Rovers started September in emphatic fashion with a 2-1 victory at Chester.
“It’s an absolutely fantastic achievement,” said Pennock.
“I told them before kick-off, ‘Look, you’ve got a chance to make history today’. They’ve gone out and done it so I’m proud.
“We’ve had an exceptional start, we’ve got to keep doing it. We’re there to be shot at, but we were there to be shot at before I got here, just by being Forest Green.
“It’s a very good start, but we want bigger things at the end of the season. There are some top teams in this league so we know it’s not going to be easy.”
