IT is most cricketers’ ambition to play in a Lord’s Final and it could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity – I can’t wait, writes Chris Dent.

I was too young to remember the glory days for Gloucestershire but I’ve watched some of the footage from the old finals and it looks like a day that any cricketer would want to be involved in.

I think getting a taste of big matches like the semi-final and final might change the mindset of the players and give us that thirst to play in more finals and to achieve more success.

I watched every ball of the semi-final run chase against Yorkshire. It was a nerve-wracking experience but knowing we had Marshy (Hamish Marshall) and Maxy (Michael Klinger) out there was reassuring.

We were just counting down every ten runs as we got closer and closer and by the end the nerves had turned to excitement.

There was a nice celebration in the changing room afterwards – we had a minute or so of just cheering and clapping. It was one of those moments when the hairs on the back of your neck come up and as a group of players it felt like we were about to do something really special.

I think as a team we have come together this year and played for each other and it has worked for us. We have tried to go into every game the same and we have just kept winning.

Surrey are a really good side but I honestly think it will be 50-50 on the day.

Share article From a batting perspective I don’t think playing in a Lord’s final will be any different. We have faced their bowlers before so you have a idea about how to play them but I think you just have to try and not get too nervous and play the way you have throughout the tournament.

I would be lying if I said I hadn’t thought about what it would be like to win but it’s such a big game and I am trying to focus on how we win it and the processes we need to go through first.
