FIJI captain Akapusi Qera insists his side will be recovered and firing on all cylinders when they take on Wales in Cardiff next week, writes Charlie Talbot-Smith.

The Fijians are still searching for their first victory of the 2015 Rugby World Cup after back-to-back defeats to England and most recently Australia on Wednesday.

During the latter, they did at least manage to stop the Wallabies pocketing a try-scoring bonus point after rallying late on to halt their opponents’ momentum.

That came despite a quick turnaround of five days between their first game at Twickenham on Friday night and then against Australia at the Millennium Stadium.

And with a week to gather their thoughts ahead of returning to Cardiff for their clash with Wales, former Gloucester flanker Qera believes his troops will help spur each other on.

"It is important for us to regroup from these two games and to get some motivation as much as possible from within the group,” said the Montpellier man.

"We need to get as much recovery in before our next game against Wales. We are looking forward to the next game.

"It was tough, but credit to Australia. They came out firing in the first half and we had to defend, when you play a top side like them they will keep coming.

“They are a good side and they were clinical in some areas of the game which got them the victory.

“We would like to thank the support from all around the world and the people who came out in their numbers to the Millennium Stadium. Even though we didn't come up with a victory, we want to thank everyone."

Four years ago Fiji picked up one win in the pool stages – via a 49-25 victory over Namibia – while they lost to Wales 66-0.
