Fairford Town 0

Brimscombe & Thrupp 1

CHRISTIEN Turner's header earned Brimscombe a safe passage into the FA Vase third qualifying round.

The defender thumped home the only goal of the game at local rivals Fairford Town.

Earlier, Brimscombe started brightly with David Woodfield going close.

However, two late flurries from the home side put the Lilywhites under pressure, but goalkeeper Steve Sparrow preserved the first half stalemate.

After the break an excellent counter attack saw Ben Deakin break down the right, cut in and shoot towards goal, a defender blocked, but only as far as Simon Clarke, who swung a left-foot shot just over the bar. With 55 minutes gone a Karl Nash free-kick was flicked on by Turner, but Mitchell in goal collected comfortably.

Meanwhile, Nash was replaced three minutes later by Johny Davis due to an injury.

Another free-kick troubled Fairford, this time taken by Ashley Caldwell; Ben Snook flicking on, but again Mitchell was equal to it.

The decisive moment came in the 84th minute; a corner from Fairford's left was cleared back towards Snook and he interchanged passes with Deakin before the winger whipped a pin-point cross into the box where Turner rose under pressure from two defenders and headed the ball into the corner of the net past the outstretched hand of Mitchell.

Fairford tried to get back into the game and James Townsend had a late header cleared off the line.
