AFC Wimbledon 1

Forest Green 2

ELLIOTT Frear’s sensational 93rd minute winner snatched Forest Green a last-gasp Emirates FA Cup first-round shock victory at League Two outfit AFC Wimbledon.

Ady Pennock’s National League side are now just 90 minutes from a potential dream third-round tie against Premier League opposition.

Earlier, former Birmingham City midfielder Darren Carter handed Rovers a sixth-minute dream start.

However, the Dons, who took on Liverpool in the third last season, snatched parity on 24 minutes through Callum Kennedy before Frear’s late winner put Rovers into Monday night’s second round draw.

Earlier, goalkeeper Steve Arnold, was handed his first start of the season follow summer ankle surgery and Kurtis Guthrie returned from suspension to take his place on the subs along with the fit again David Pipe.

Rovers started brightly – Frear arrowing wide inside the opening minute.

Five minutes later and Rovers raced into a sixth-miunte lead. Keanu Marsh-Brown robbed Dannie Bulman and fed Carter, who rifled home with unnerving precision from inside the box.

The Dons found their feet and former Leeds United striker Tom Elliott tested Arnold from distance.

They drew level on 24 minutes. The unmarked Kennedy fizzed a sublime strike into the roof of the net from a Barry Fuller cross.

It was nip and tuck, but on the cusp of the break former Forest Green youth and loanee player Sean Rigg drove at Rovers’ defence to pick out Lyle Taylor, who drilled wide of the target.

Rovers were on the front-foot after the break with the unmarked Charlie Clough planting a header onto the bar from a Marsh-Brown cross, inside a minute of the restart.

The Dons upped the tempo - Arnold forced to block a Taylor strike from a quick Rigg free-kick and then  doing well to smother a Rigg strike.

Rigg was catching the eye, but he slashed wide with just Arnold to beat.

The game remained tight and one chance looked likely to decide the tie.

Carter was agonisingly close to bagging a second as he picked his spot from outside the box after Marsh-Brown’s endeavour.

The impressive Aarran Racine went into the book to incur his fifth Rovers' booking of the season and a next game ban.

However, with sixteen minutes to go, Pennock turned to the bench - bringing the leggy Guthrie on  for Parkin.

Rovers were showing attacking intent. The willing Dale Bennett set-off on a lung-busting run and as Fuller dallied on the ball, Frear picked out Marsh-Brown, who shot softly into the relieved Ben Wilson.

Rovers had their tails up an James Jennings caused AFC Wimbledon hearts to flutter with a header.

With a replay on the cards, Rovers snatched a stunning victory. Frear ran across the box to drive a sumptuous strike into the bottom corner to spark scenes of celebration.
