FRIDAY marks the two-year tenure of boss Ady Pennock.

The progress is there for all to see. He is not afraid to make a big call, especially over selection and he usually gets it right.

Chairman Dale Vince must not be forgotten either and getting Ady on board is proving to be a shrewd decision.

A play-off semi-final in his first full season and now top of the league and the goal of reaching League Two is on the cards.

Rovers’ thrilling FA Cup win at League Two outfit AFC Wimbledon proved the team are ready to move forward. Everyone played well and character and determination shone through.

Ady had made a goalkeeping change and what a wise one it was. Steve Arnold was a revelation. On a wet, slippery pitch his handling was superb and his judgement faultless. He had his best game for the club.

The team was set up splendidly. In front of the back four was our engine room. As energetic as ever, Rob Sinclair and Sam Wedgbury were outstanding. In front of them the three flair players, Keanu Marsh-Brown, Elliott Frear and Darren Carter provided both width and support for the master of ceremonies Jon Parkin.

There was more midfield control as well as variety in attack. Strategic substitutions meant Wimbledon were asked different questions at a key point in the game. They could not answer them and the rest is history!

All eleven players were valid candidates for man of the match (substitutes as well of course) but the coaching staff deserve plenty of plaudits.

Usually Ady plays 4-4-2 but with the middle four having two wide players we can look vulnerable. Now with Wedge and Sincs offering defensive stability and the versatility of the improving Carter, our wide men have the freedom to press down the flanks. We are more compact and more in control never looking like losing on Saturday.

Now for Welling and Dover. The National League is full of good teams, all of whom can achieve excellent results. Four points will be a good haul. Much as I would like six nothing can be taken for granted.
