FOREST Green goalkeeper Steve Anold insists his injury woes are behind him.

Signed from Stevenage in the summer of 2014, the giant keeper dislodged New Lawn favourite Sam Russell at the back end of last season, but an ankle injury during the pre-season clash against Aston Villa and the subsequent form of Jonny Maxted, left him a frustrated bystander.

However, a surprise return in the FA Cup win at AFC Wimbledon  handed Arnold the chance to stake his claim.

He said: "Last season I was trying to fight through an injury, but the operation I had this season revealed what was causing the problems I had at Stevenage, so I'm back in the swing of things for the first time in two years."

Arnold admitted he was surprised to be given the nod ahead of Maxted.

"It was a bit unexpected," admitted Arnold. "I thought I would get the cup games as Jonny has been tremendous and he will be gutted not to be in the team. Jonny, Paul White and myself are all close mates and you can see that in training."
