Longlevens AFC 2

LONGLEVENS gained the Gloucestershire derby bragging rights at a rain-soaked Meadow.

The Gloucester side bagged the Hellenic Premier Division spoils with two second half strikes.

Earlier, Brimscombe goalkeeper Steve Sparrow made a fine save from Craig Martin.

However, Brimscombe responded - David Woodfield saw Ollie Hall unable to hold onto the ball in the slippery conditions and it was cleared to safety.

Brimscombe's Simon Clarke saw his aerial attempt headed off the line and Ashley Caldwell dragged a shot wide, but Longlevens finished the half on the front foot.

Dave Merrick almost broke the second half deadlock for Longlevens with a strike just wide of Steve Sparrow's goal. Then a quick free-kick just outside the Brimscombe box hit the crossbar. Brad Martin also went close when he got on the end of a cross, but could only head over the bar.

Meanwhile, Christien Turner headed just wide from a free-kick and Ben Deakin drove high over the bar.

Jamie Bish went close for the Lillywhites when his 40 yard strike drew a great save from Hall.

However, Merrick nosed Levens ahead in the 65th minute.

The second came 10 minutes later; with Brimscombe pushing forward for an equaliser, Brad Martin struck a fine finish.
