FORMER Forest Green boss David Hockaday has distanced himself from a return to Leeds United and has reinforced his commitment to Kidderminster Harriers.

The head coach was keen to stress how much he is determined to do well at the club after a story in the national press incurred the wrath of the fans.

The article in The Sun quoted Hockaday saying how he was keen to return to former club Leeds United.

Hockaday said: “I would crawl over broken glass to go back there.

“I don’t have the ego to be a head coach so if the president called and said ‘coach the Under-21s or be an assistant,’ I’d love it.

“I love the area and love the people. Leeds is my favourite city in the world to eat and shop.

“Everyone said ‘David who?’ But I won the dressing room within a week despite it being the most dysfunctional dressing room ever.”

Kidderminster head into the testing Christmas fixtures bottom of the Vanarama National League and face Forest Green on Monday.

While not being drawn on the piece, he told the Kidderminster Shuttle: “I know a lot has been said but I want to assure the fans I am 100 per cent committed to the club.

“I am the first into the ground at 7.30am and am desperate to see Harriers do well.

“I love the club and I am working very hard to get things right.”
