BOSS Ady Pennock was burning the midnight oil after protracted Forest Green transfer deadline activity went down to the wire.

Pennock and club secretary James Mooney concluded the necessary paper work 30 minutes before the 11pm January transfer window slammed shut to snap-up former Arsenal winger Anthony Jeffrey on an 18-month deal from National League rivals Boreham Wood.

Jeffrey, 21, joins Rovers for an undisclosed fee and has been immediately loaned back to Boreham Wood, but will return to Rovers for the final nine-games of the season.

“We had to agree to the loan back to get the deal done and it took a lot of toing and froing, but Anthony will be with us for the final nine games of the season.”

Pennock is a huge fan of wingers and is delighted to capture a player, who kick-started his career at Arsenal and featured in the Football League for Wycombe Wanderers and Stevenage.

“I Love wingers and he gives us another option and is one of the quickest in the league,” added Pennock.

“He can play left or right or up top and will add more competition.”

Meanwhile, Pennock is expected to tie-up a deal for an unattached back-up keeper ahead of the trip to Wrexham on Saturday.

He said: “We should have someone in before Saturday and a deal has been agreed. I’m delighted with the business done and full credit to chairman Dale Vince for allowing me to bring in Anthony Jeffrey, Kieffer Moore, Brett Williams, Ben Jefford and on-loan midfielder Charlie Cooper.”

Rovers travel to Wrexham in rude health after making it six wins on the spin following a dramatic 2-1 win over Macclesfield last weekend, a result, which followed their stoppage-time 1-0 smash-and-grab at Southport.

“Six wins on the spin is a phenomenal achievement and this caps a brilliant week for us and I couldn’t be more proud,” said Pennock.

“Late goals don’t happen by chance and a lot of credit has to go to the unsung heroes behind the scenes like Neil Withington, Jamie Day, Glyn Jones, Ian Weston and Joe Baker.”

Key defender Aarran Racine returns from a three-game suspension and comes into contention for the trip to north Wales.
