FOREST GREEN are set to mirror the successful boys academy with the chance for girls to study a two-year course at SGS College.

It’s hoped it’ll help bridge the gap between girls youth football and the senior Ladies game – Forest Green’s Ladies first team play in the FA Women’s Premier League South Division - the third tier of women’s football in the English game.

An open morning training session was held at Inside Football in Brimscombe last Saturday.

FGR Academy manager Scott Bartlett said: “It’s an exciting time for FGR Ladies and I am happy we as a club have decided to set up the girls Academy which will mirror our youth Academy.

“First and foremost it will give the girls a good education, but coupled with that it’s an opportunity to be a full time footballer with part of the FGR Ladies pathway.

"The good thing about the college is that there’s the flexibility there to do a whole range of courses. They can do virtually anything they want to do and play football alongside it.”
