MINCHINHAMPTON picked up all three points with a narrow win against a struggling Wotton Rovers side and in the process secured promotion from Stroud League Division Four.

A bright start and some delightful football saw Minchinhampton take an early lead. Good interplay between Sean Baker, Liam St Clair-Moore and Ben Jones, eased Tom Stephenson into a shooting position and he steered the ball past the Wotton Rovers custodian to settle any nerves.

Continuing to boss the match, Minchinhampton were well on top. St Clair-Moore had an effort ruled out for a tight offside and Josh Button’s flicked header came back off the bar.

The second period followed the same pattern and time-and-again Minchinhampton were frustrated with some great last- ditch Wotton Rovers defending and a fantastic keeping display denying them the goals that their dominance deserved.

Late on Wotton Rovers, buoyed by still being in the match pressed forward but the back four of Ryan Edwards, Giles Arnold, Andy Thomas and Riki Noble were in mean and determined mood and when this defence was breached late on a fine one-handed save from keeper, James Green, denied them an equaliser.

Star Man: Ben Jones.

Randwick 3rds...3

A SOLID first half performance saw Minchinhampton take a three-goal lead in this Stroud League Seven clash.

Sam Wickham opened the scoring and Luke Halliday doubled the score soon afterwards.

Nick Matthews added a third, picking himself up after being taken down in the box to despatch the resultant penalty.

Randwick quickly reduced the deficit in the second half through Jake Wells-Harris, but Minchinhampton again hit back from the penalty spot with a Randwick player receiving his marching orders after handling on the line - Matthews again fired home the penalty.

This lead was again stretched when a Matthews’ cross was knocked into his own net by a Randwick defender. Two late goals, the second of which was outstanding, from Tom Jarman gave an air of respectability to the scoreline.

Star Man: Adam Churchill.
