JAME JENNINGS has admitted he doesn't know whether he will remain a Forest Green player next season.

The goalscoring left-back admitted it felt like a "sucker-punch" not to start at Wembley in Rovers' 3-1 defeat to Grimsby Town.

And he revealed the “writing is perhaps on the wall” as new boss Mark Cooper prepares for next season and a possible squad rebuild with 16 players currently out of contract.

He said: “I’m absolutely gutted and have not many positives to take from losing at Wembley, and this is heart-breaking really, but this is what you have to deal with in football.

“I have been a professional for 10 years now and football can be cruel at times - and you get given a sucker- punch like that, it is difficult to take, but I’m a professional and when you hear that news - the most important thing is the team.”

Despite being Rovers’ first-choice left-back, a knock in the play-off semi-final win at Dover, saw the Manchester-born player miss the second leg last week, and he failed to reclaim his place off replacement Ben Jefford.

Jennings added: “Having seen what happened today the writing is perhaps on the wall for me, but we have just finished the final and now is the time to digest that. I’m looking forward to a break – it has been a long old slog this season ,and we are gutted how it has finished, but we are all grown men and have to bounce-back.

“I have not thought about next season as our objective was getting into League Two, but we will see what happens in the next few days about contracts and it will be a summer of reflecting and making sure we comeback stronger.”
