FORMER Forest Green assistant manager Jamie Day has been named the new Braintree Town boss.

The 36-year-old replaces Danny Cowley, who has taken the helm at Lincoln City after guiding The Iron to third in the National League and losing play-off semi-finalists.

Day left his role at Forest Green after the sacking of boss Ady Pennock a week before the play-offs started.

Day managed Welling for five years, leading them to the National League South title in 2012-13.

Day successfully kept Welling up but left to take over at Ebbsfleet in December 2014, where he lasted just five months before he was sacked by the ambitious National League South side.

He had been in the running to take over at the Iron last summer.

Day started his playing career at Arsenal before moving on to AFC Bournemouth and has also played for Dover Athletic and Grays Athletic.
