Michael Klinger hit 140 as Gloucestershire moved into a strong position by tea on the third day of the Specsavers County Championship match with Northamptonshire at the Brightside Ground, Bristol.

The hosts were eventually bowled out for 408, from an overnight 240 for four, to take a first innings lead of 242, with Klinger last man out, having faced 286 balls and hit 14 fours and 2 sixes.

Leg-spinner Seekkuge Prassana finished with five for 97 on his Championship debut, but there was little else to cheer Northants, although Richard Gleeson was unlucky in claiming three for 94 from 34 overs.

David Payne (32) shared a ninth-wicket stand of 76 with Klinger to frustrate the visitors.
