MICHAEL KLINGER marked his return to Gloucestershire’s four-day side with 140 as his team set up a winning position on the third day of the Specsavers County Championship match with Northamptonshire at Bristol.

The 35-year-old Australian, recently back from a six-week break from cricket after the season Down Under, hit 14 fours and 2 sixes in a 286-ball innings that helped the hosts post 418 all out in reply to their opponents’ meagre 176.

Klinger said: "It wasn't my most fluent hundred. I felt a bit rusty because it was the first time I had faced a red ball in two months.

"It took me a while to get into a groove, but thanks to David Payne, who batted really well after lunch we have got into the position we pretty much wanted at the start of the day.

"We face a big job tomorrow because it is a flat wicket, but we will come with some specific plans and hopefully get a victory."
