Stroud Valley Canoe Club scooped a raft of medals at Frome.

Amongst the medal winners were Phil Copeland, Owen Stokes, David Mason, Jessie Davies, Lucas Brachi and Nigel Greening in the men’s divisions and Nadine Brachi, Emma Stokes, Gwen Davies, Sophia Stokes and Orla Brachi, who were winners in the women’s categories.

The aim of the event was to promote more local interest in Slalom, a sport in which Great Britain won gold and silver medals at the 2012 Olympics.

Slalom is a time trial competition, where competitors negotiate ‘gates’, which are coloured poles suspended above the water in either a canoe (single paddle) or a kayak (double paddle).

Stroud Valley Canoe Club is always keen to welcome and train new members and anyone wishing to try the sport should Tony Chalk at: tonychalk@stroudvalleycanoeclub.org.uk or go to the website: stroudvalleycanoeclub.org.uk.
