Former European Tour player Sion Bebb claimed his first West pro-am victory for more than two years with a sparkling four-under-par 67 at Cotswold Edge.

It completed a lucrative double for the Morlais Castle club professional for the previous day he won a big charity event in his native Wales.

He defeated a stellar cast list of professionals assembled by former Tour winner Mark Mouland for his Charity Pro-Am in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK, at the Glamorganshire Golf Club, Penarth.

Then he starred at the Gloucestershire course at Wotton-under-Edge by making birdies at the third, fourth, sixth and ninth to be out in 32. A more sedate return of level par over the tighter back nine with one birdie and one bogey brought a two-shot win over James Ruth (China Fleet).

Bebb and Ruth made five birdies each, matched by third placed duo Jon Bevan (Sherborne) and Toby Hunt (St Mellons) on 70 and Ashley Mansell (Clevedon) who shared fifth on 71 with George Ryall (Burnham & Berrow), Kevin Davies (Caerphilly), Richard O'Hanlon (St Kew) and Giuseppe Licata (Chipping Sodbury).

On a pleasant windless day that ended in glorious sunshine, Hunt’s trio of ten-handicapper Des Lane, former Europro professional Adam Lee and Mike Britton, both playing off one, produced a barrage of birdies to win the team prize by seven shots on 18-under-par 124.

Team Raffle, led by Kevin Davies, including Shaun Pearce, Ron Gibson and John Cumming, continued the Welsh domination by taking second on 131.

Nick Haile (Minchinhampton) led the third team of Ross Casey, Pat Casey and Adam Harbour on countback after a tie on l33 with Joe Ferguson (Celtic Manor) heading a home team.

Leading scores: 67 S Bebb (Morlais Castle), 69 J Ruth (China Fleet), 70 J Bevan (Sherborne), T Hunt (St Mellons), 71 G Ryall (Burnham & Berrow), K Davies (Caerphilly), R O'Hanlon (St Kew), G Licata (Chipping Sodbury), 72 A Mansell (Clevedon), C Rogers (Celtic Manor), D Carter (Upavon), D Lee (Rushmore).
