HARRY HICKFORD has voted with his feet after revealing he could have spent another year at MK Dons.

But the new Forest Green defender has opted to drop out of the Football League and join Mark Cooper’s ambitious outfit.

“As soon as I spoke to my agent – I was keen to come, “ who has penned a one-year deal at the New Lawn the day after his 20th birthday.

“ I had another year at MK and could have stayed, but I felt like I needed a change and when the opportunity came I took it.”

Mature beyond his years, Hickford expects to let his footballing to the talking and admitted he is not a fan of twitter.

He added: “ I’m not into social media and I can’t wait to start - and from what I have heard from the gaffer (Mark Cooper) the club are on the rise.”

With Cooper set to play three at the back, right-footed Hickford feels his style of play will suit.

“I like being on the ball and playing out from the back – that’s the way I was brought up. Three at the back gives you the opportunity to attack.”

Hickford will face a fight to force his way into a defence which boasts captain Aarran Racine, Charlie Clough, Dale Bennett and new signings Ethan Pinnock and Jon Moran.

“I’m aware the club just missed out on promotion last season and competition at the back keeps everyone on their toes.”

Hickford will meet his new team-mates when he moves into the club digs next week, where he will be greeted by one familiar face.

“I’m moving in on Tuesday, the day before pre-season training starts. I’m not sure where the digs are but the club secretary James Mooney has been sorting this out. I know Christian Doidge from my time on loan at Dagenham and Redbridge, but to be honest everyone is in the same boat – and players usually get on and are rooting for the same thing.”
