Anthony Jeffrey's season-long loan to Boreham Wood may open up a deal for former Premier League star Wade Elliott.
The former Bournemouth, Birmingham City, Burnley and Bristol City midfielder is currently training with Mark Cooper's side and played in the 3-1 victory over Cardiff City on Wednesday - and is expected to feature against his old club Birmingham on Saturday.
Elliott retired as a player at the end of the 2014/15 season to become Bristol City Under-21s manager.
He took charge of the first team on a caretaker basis after Steve Cotterill was sacked before Lee Johnson was appointed as the new boss.
The 37-year-old scored Burnley's winner in the 2009 Championship play-off final against Sheffield United to play in the Premier League.
Cooper said: "For his age, he's been unbelievable and he'd be a good addition so I'll speak to the chairman and see what he thinks."
