The All Golds return to Wales this week to face bottom club Torfaen Tigers looking for the win that would break a six match losing run and restore them to the top four.

Having slipped out of the play-off places last week following their 40-18 defeat at West Wales Raiders, the All Golds have an immediate opportunity to make up for that loss.

They will travel to Cwmbran hoping to repeat their 56-26 triumph at Gordon League earlier in the season. Harry Kidd scored four tries in the win and is the CLS side’s leading scorer this season with eight touchdowns.

Torfaen’s last game saw them crushed 88-0 at the hands of the London Chargers but at home in front of a vociferous crowd they will be a different proposition as they proved in beating Nottingham 50-44.

Both those games show that the Tigers have their problems defensively and they have conceded 50 points or more in six of their nine league games so far. Coach Alex Davidson will hope that his men can take advantage of that as they did when they ran in ten tries against the Tigers in May.

Despite their run of losses, the All Golds have had chances during several of their games but just have not been able to establish a commanding advantage. However, Davidson is rarely able to select the same 17 each week and teamwork suffers as a result no matter how much the individuals are putting in.

Defeats to leaders London Chargers (48-6), Valley Cougars (24-20) and West Wales Raiders (26-24 and 40-18) don’t reflect the effort and ability of the group as, beneath the bare scorelines, players are revelling in the intense competition and improving with each and every performance.

So much so that Callum Bradbury and Jack Uren made first team debuts in the All Golds’ Kingstone Press League 1 win at Oxford a fortnight ago when Sam Hodge was 18th man. That was proof if proof were needed that performances in the Conference League South will be recognised with first team opportunities. All Golds’ head coach Lee Greenwood is looking very hard at the CLS side as the club uses the last few games of the season to look at options for 2017.

Having travelled to Valley Cougars and the Raiders in recent weeks the CLS boys will be well-attuned to the trip across the border and the atmosphere should inspire Davidson’s men to further efforts to get that long-overdue victory.
