WITH 15 days until the start of the National League season, Forest Green boss Mark Cooper feels the five-day training camp in Portugal was perfect preparation.

Rovers fly home today to prepare for four games next week, starting with back-to-back friendlies at Slimbridge on Monday and Brimscombe on Tuesday, in readiness for the opening league game of the season at Boreham Wood on August 8.

Cooper is expected to split the players in back-to-back friendlies against Slimbridge and Brimscombe should offer some clues about how he sees his team evolving.

Rovers also play back-to-back games on Friday at Nailsworth rivals Shortwood United and 24 hours later at home to League Two outfit Newport, who will include former Forest Green striker Jon Parkin.

Rovers finish their pre-season schedule at Swindon Supermarine on August 2.

Goals from Matt Tubbs and Liam Noble secured victory over second tier Portuguese outfit Olhanense.

He said: "Against a tough team, a very aggressive, physical team, they finished seventh in their Championship last year - and they didn't hold back in any of their challenges shall we say - we stood up to it and managed to play some decent football and managed to win 2-0.

"We got away without any injuries and we got a lot of good minutes into players again.

"It's been really productive, the players have done an awful lot of work in intense heat. The facilities have been good.

"It's been pleasing with the work we've been able to do and we saw that from the result."
