TEAMS from Minchinhampton and Tetbury were among others that joined Cainscross who hosted the half pitch heroes (fat boy) sevens on Saturday, July 23 in glorious sunshine.
The teams, also including Painswick, Stroud, Hardwicke, Quedgeley Harlequins, Cheltenham Civil Service and Smiths, produced some wonderful rugby in what was a successful and entertaining day.
Stroud topped their group, with Painswick coming second.
Cainscross won their group, beating Minchinhampton with the final play of their game, the only team to beat Minch all afternoon.
For the hosts, Hayden Maller, Jack Rice and Jack Young showed their youthful enthusiasm in their running and hard tackling.
Maller was especially effective in attack, seemingly scoring tries at will.
The semi-finals saw Minch beat Stroud and Cainscross lose a very tight game 4 tries to 3 in golden time extra time to Painswick.
Cainscross ended on a winning note, beating Stroud in extra time to clinch third place.
Minch were crowned winners after defeating Painswick in the final.
The sevens tournament proved to be very successful and thanks must go to Rob Hale, Adam Carter, Gareth Ponsford and Tom Mills for organising the day and ensuring everything ran smoothly.
