MINETY’S Fran Wilson scored 16 not out and was responsible for brilliantly running out New Zealand captain Suzie Bates – who had been voted Wisden female cricketer of 2016 – in the first Kia Super League final.
But Wilson still ended on the losing side as Southern Vipers chased down Western Storm’s total of 140-5 to win a tense game by seven wickets.
Former England captain Charlotte Edwards’ 78-run first-wicket stand with Bates proved key for the Vipers.
Despite a middle-order wobble, seasoned internationals Sara McGlashan and Lydia Greenway powered the Vipers home with seven balls left at Chelmsford.
Current England skipper Heather Knight – who starred in the semi-final for the Storm – could score only six in the final as her side posted 140-5.
