A FREAK injury to Shortwood United player Nick Peare marred this draw against bottom of the table Bridgwater.

Peare appeared to fall under no challenge after 19 minutes, but it was confirmed today, Sunday, that he has sustained a broken leg.

"Losing Nick is a real blow and we all hope he recovers quickly," said boss Alex Sykes.

Bridgwater created the better chances and missed a golden chance to go 2-0 up a minute before the Wood levelled.

Wood's performance was stuttering at best and they failed to muster a single shot on target in the opening half.

Although Shortwood started brightly it was Bridgwater who created the better chances and after 11 minutes goalkeeper Rhys Lovett had to be out smartly to block Hancox. Lovett was soon in action again diving to keep a dangerous low cross from reaching Horsley coming in at the far post.

Wood's first effort was a shot from Matt Bennett after 38 minutes which flew wide.

In first half added time Wood were caught out with a ball down the flank and when Hancox crossed low Syd Campbell was on hand to finish from eight yards.

With 52 minutes gone Bridgwater should have doubled the lead. Bennett misdirected his pass to Nick Hancock who slipped as he had to retrieve the situation and Kellow raced through but curled his shot wide of the far post. Wood were level a minute later.

Steve Davies got away down the flank and crossed hard and low. Jake Lee slid in but missed but Hancock behind him at the far post slammed the ball home.

It was Shortwood's chance to miss a great chance when Zamora fired over from eight yards and then Lee crossed but Davis could not get on the end of it.
