IN front of a bumper crowd at Brands Hatch, 19-year-old Jordan Weaving took his second championship win in three seasons as the former Motostar British Champion was crowned 2016 Pirelli National STK600 Champion at the final round of a challenging season.

Mirroring his 2014 success, it was a season of consistency for the Gloucestershire-based South African who, after being hit with early season bad luck, fired his immaculate NMT No Limits Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R to eight podium visits in twelve races, including four wins, and suffering only one DNF after being the innocent victim of a mistimed lunge at Donington Park in May.

The season began in frustration for Weaving at Silverstone as a rear tyre issue scuppered any chance of an opening podium after a scintillating display in Qualifying, nursing his Russo Racing-prepared machine home to 10th place to the disbelief of his crew after inspecting the rear tyre after the race.

After missing out on Pole Position by a whisker, a wet weather podium in almost torrential conditions was just reward before the series moved to Brands Hatch where a first Pole Position of his STK600 career lifted the former Red Bull Rookie to a second consecutive podium.

Disappointment at Donington Park was compounded with a tough Knockhill round, sixth in qualifying and seventh in the race wasn't where the team or Jordan wanted to be however normal service was resumed in Norfolk as another front row start and a hard-fought 2nd place helped right the wrongs of the previous two rounds.

It was from Snetterton that the Kawasaki Team Green rider found his best form with back-to-back Pole Positions and race wins at Thruxton and Brands Hatch GP before a Red Flag was shown at Cadwell Park, whilst holding a comfortable 3rd place, scuppering any hopes of a third win on the bounce.

The traditional second visit of the season to Oulton Park brought late summer to Cheshire and a return to the dominance that had become a mainstay of the season, Pole Position and a race win at one of the #FuelledByXpressCoffee rider's favourite circuits was immediately backed up with unfinished business at a sun-drenched Donington Park as yet another Pole Position and race win left the Championship leader with a 21-point advantage ahead of the final round at Brands Hatch.

The weather played it's part for all the wrong reasons at the picturesque Kent venue where, after posting the second fastest time overall, the rain showers came overnight and on race day adding more to think about for the understandably nervous Weaving.

It was an 11th front row start in tricky conditions as the STK600 field took the lights for the final time in 2016 however a crash in the early laps caused oil to be spilled on the circuit the race was stopped and delayed while the fluid was cleaned away.

As the race restarted for a second time over a reduced 6 lap dash it was Davey Todd who took the win as the champion-elect kept out of trouble with a measured ride to 8th place to the delight of his team, family and army of supporters.

After the race Jordan said: "That was a hard race; the conditions were really sketchy and while the restart didn't help the nerves I wasn't too concerned, I just had to stay out of trouble. It wasn't my best race of the year but I also had a job to do, and that was to bring my bike home in sight of the nearest rival and we managed that.

"As far as the championship goes, I'm so proud of the whole team for all they've done this season. We've had ups and downs with results like any team but the ups have been far more than the downs. It was a tough start to the year as a few things didn't go our way but we kept out heads down and we knew we had the potential to go the distance, and we proved that by taking the Championship.

"After watching Mason win last year from across the garage I knew we had the package to fight all year. I've grown as a rider this year and I'm so proud to give Paul Russo and his NMT No Limits Kawasaki team a second successive STK600 title with the incredible Kawasaki ZX-6R. NMT No Limits Kawasaki are a fantastic team to ride for, every single team member deserve this win so a huge thank you to them with special thanks to Kev Neal my Crew Chief and without my family I wouldn't be where I am today, I can't thank them enough for all they do. To my sponsors, support team, race support staff and, of course, the fans, thank you for all you do to keep me pushing on."
