FOREST GREEN boss Mark Cooper is a leading contender with the bookies to replace Karl Robinson at League One strugglers MK Dons.

Cooper, 47, who signed a five-year deal in the summer, has guided the ambitious National League leaders to the top of the table with Rovers unbeaten in eight and four points clear at the summit.

The SNJ understands MK Dons have yet to approach Rovers, but Cooper is viewed as a strong contender for the post after taking Swindon Town to a League One play-off final last year and a spell as boss at Championship level with Peterborough United.

However, former Bristol City boss Steve Cotterill has emerged as short-priced favourite at 5/2, according to Sky Bet with Cooper at 12/1, who is ahead of Ryan Giggs at 14/1 with the bookies.

Robinson left the League One side by mutual consent on Sunday following a 3-0 defeat to Southend.

MK Dons are currently 19th in the table after a run of four games without a victory.

The bookies have also tipped ex-Leeds United boss Steve Evans. Also in the list is Roberto Di Matteo, Paul Ince and Cheltenham Town manager Gary Johnson.
