FOREST GREEN fan and author Chris Gardner was in for a surprise when he walked into the Macclesfield boardroom and bumped into Sir Alex Ferguson.
And he was surprised to get a warm welcome from the fiery former Manchester United boss after he thrust him a copy of his recently released Forest Green book.
Not a flying boot or the 'Fergie Hairdryer' could be seen as a friendly Ferguson was more than happy to talk football.
Chris said: "I've met a lot of fantastic people on my quest to sell my book, to raise money for Gloucestershire Deaf Association (GDA). Meeting Sir Alex Ferguson in the Macclesfield Town boardroom was right up there.
"A guest of The Silkmen, he was lovely company. Shyly I asked for a quick word, and a photograph (taken by Phil Butterworth). He could not have been nicer - not a hairdryer in sight! Just a polite enquiry why I wrote the book, and congratulations on doing so.
"Shortly after, Keanu ended an incisive move to give Sir Alex his first glimpse of what Rovers are about. After that, our football would have provided better fare than at Old Trafford this season."
