Forest Green goalkeeper Jonny Maxted has joined Guiseley for an undisclosed fee.

The popular 23-year-old has been on loan at the National League club since September and has now agreed a full time move to Nethermoor Park.

He leaves Forest Green having made 21 appearances in all competitions for the club.

After making a guest appearance in a pre-season friendly with Cardiff City in July 2015 when he saved a penalty and won the man-of-the-match award, Maxted agreed a one-year contract at Forest Green following a free transfer from Hartlepool United.

He went on to establish himself as the number one at the club, keeping four consecutive clean sheets in his first four games, before Steve Arnold’s return to the side, and an injury, restricted his opportunities.

The former Doncaster Rovers and Hartlepool United man returned from injury to sit on the bench for last season’s National League play-off final defeat to Grimsby Town at Wembley.

Having activated a second year in his contract last season, he spent pre-season vying with Sam Russell for the number one spot in Mark Cooper’s new side, but joined Guiseley on loan a few weeks into the season.

He has now sealed a permanent move to the Yorkshire club where he has made 12 league appearance so far.
