Stroud Nomads 29

Coney Hill 2nds 30

FROMEHALL Park was the stage for one of the best tries ever seen as Stroud suffered a narrow defeat at home to Coney Hill.

A much-changed Nomads side welcomed back Peter Sykes and Jordan Phipps, but were 10 points behind after two breakaway tries for Coney Hill.

Phipps got Stroud back into the game with an outstanding solo effort that saw him run the full length of the pitch and beat several opponents before scoring in the corner for 5-10.

Coney Hill scored their third try from a rolling maul close to the Nomads line, but the Nomads did respond through centre Brendan Wheeler, Peter Sykes making the conversion to give Stroud 13 points at half-time.

Coney Hill scored their second rolling maul try after the break, but once again Stroud fought back through Rob Davey.

The visitors, however, scored their fifth try of the game to stay ahead, but were met with another Nomads fightback to keep the score tight heading into the final stages - Rob Davey getting his second try of the game, converted by Sykes.

A loss ball at Nomads’ lineout proved costly as Coney Hill went down the field and won a penalty, before their fly half made the winning kick for 29-30, final score.
