I HAVE never seen a better non league game.

The match against Tranmere was a delight Rovers dominated in the first half, but of course Tranmere hit back.

Rovers were the better side overall but individual errors at both ends of the pitch cost them dear, but cannot take away from a scintillating team performance.

The only times I have seen Rovers play near that level were in the Cup ties against Swindon and Derby County.

The quality of football now on offer at Nailsworth is of course attracting larger crowds and there are queues at the bars and on the roads going home.

The Carol Emburey suite is packed. To some this is a problem. I am not one of them, however.

These are signs of a successful team. The ground was buzzing and I loved it.

A large number of travelling Tranmere fans contributed to a lively and lovely evening of football.

Matters have moved on in five years, we need to remember the days when 700 turned up, had coffee and a dreadful burger in a draughty corridor under the stand. How different it is now.

The CE is packed with people enjoying an array of fine food. Boxes are full and the car park is quickly filled.

Of course, five years ago it was for so many "our Club" and of course it still is but we have to share it with many others, and should joyously do so.

Two coaches may need to be run to away games and this is another welcome change. We are a club going forward in an exciting fashion. This means change and we should all embrace it.

Speaking at the supporters club AGM Manager Mark Cooper explained how the players had done exactly that, playing the way he wants them to, and of course winning games.

He answered questions in an open, informative manner, without being indiscreet. It was the best meet the Manager session I have attended. There was so much to be learned from an honest, intelligent man.

I was intrigued to his answer about our current use of corners. Agreeing we were currently failing he then surprised us all by explaining that for Wrexham he had given the players "corner ownership".

That means the team could choose what option to use and come up with new plans if they wished. He also added that if the result was right they could have a few days off. Can we expect Wrexham 0 FGR 7?

Mark talk was followed by the supporters club AGM. As well as local issues other matters on the wider football front were addressed.

Total support was offered to the FA as they deal with FIFA over the Poppy fiasco. Alan Beard spoke for us all when inviting members to show the FA we are totally behind them.

There was also a desire to spur the Vanarama National League into action regarding three promotion places to the football leagues. It is obvious from the standard of play this season that this is certainly justified.

The campaign to achieve this needs to be wide ranging and vigorous and leadership from the league needs to be positive. The response from the clubs would be considerable. League leaders please wake up!

This is a different sort of column this week as Mrs Light and I are heading for Less Afful territory which of course is Cornwall. Back next week.
