Shortwood Res 3

SHORTWOOD RESERVES made it two away wins on the spin against Swindon College at Supermarine RFC on Saturday afternoon, writes Paul Webb.

And what made the win all the more impressive is that the Reserves managed it with a fortnight lay-off.

The visitors looked a little rusty to begin with although they scored early on with a Louis Peyton goal.

They soon began to assert themselves as they looked to double their lead.

Peyton and James Singh both found the back of the net but they were both denied due to an offside flag.

During a goalmouth scramble the ball appeared to cross the line but was ruled out by the referee.

Shortwood then conceded a poor equaliser just before half-time.

Wood started the second-half with renewed vigour and soon got on top of the game.

Singh got the second and Will Hawes made it three.

Wood were comfortable now but switched off late in the game allowing Swindon College to score a second in injury time.

After the match, manager Nick Ackland said: “I’m very pleased with back-to-back away wins.

“If I have one complaint it is that we created lots of chances today and should’ve scored a few more. But, hey, it’s three points.”
