Henley Town 3

Brimscombe and Thrupp 6

BRIMSCOMBE survived a scare to smash six second-half goals to claim a resounding win at Henley Town, writes Scott Boulton.

The Lilywhites trailed by two goals at the break after two exceptional goals were fired past goalkeeper Lewis Skyers.

With the two goal deficit on their minds the visitors came out the better of the two teams in the second-half finding the net after just four minutes, when David Woodfield latched onto the end of an Ash Caldwell cross.

Henley fought back and gave themselves some breathing space after a shot from the angle beat the outstretched Skyers.

Brimscombe pushed-and-pushed and played some beautiful football and when Dan Hill’s cross caused confusion it was headed onto the woodwork from a Henley defender, but Josh Jones was on hand to follow up and fire home.

It was chance-after-chance for the Whites’ Ash Caldwell found his volley dealt with by Aulsberry in the Henley net before Jack Smith just failed to convert from just inside the area.

In the 65th minute Brimscombe were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous area, with Ollie Pitt standing over the ball he swung it onto the head of Kyle Pitts making it 3-3.

Edd Major replaced Sam Blackie and Caldwell once again tried his luck on goal but narrowly missed the bottom corner.

Pitt found a team-mate in the Henley area from a free-kick, this time Chris Greenhough picking up the loose ball.

Major worked hard on the right side of the pitch closing down every player and his hard work paid off when he squared the ball across goal to Jack Smith who knocked it in, giving Brimscombe a two-goal lead.

The final goal was very similar the fifth with Major once again squaring it to Smith who found the bottom corner.

Next up: Brimscombe face Cirencester Development for a place in the final four of the County Cup at the Meadow this evening, 7.45pm.
