CHARLIE CLOUGH has joined League Two outfit  Barnet for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old Forest Green defender, who scored in the 1-1 draw against Braintree on Saturday, joins the Bees having spent just over two years at The New Lawn.

Fellow defender Aarran Racine is also set to exit the New Lawn, but the SNJ understands boss Mark Cooper is in talks with two possible replacements.

Manager Mark Cooper said: "As a player, Cloughy has improved technically during his time at Forest Green and we wish him all the best."

Barnet currently sit just outside the play-off places on goal difference and have made a number of acquisitions since the start of December, when Rossi Eames took over as interim manager following Martin Allen's departure to Eastleigh.

Clough made 90 appearances for Forest Green in all competitions after joining in January 2017 from then National League South club Sutton United after starting his career at Bristol Rovers.

His first and last games for Forest Green were against Braintree Town, the first being a 2-1 win at the Amlin Stadium as FGR progressed to the National League play-offs for the first time.

Clough was a key figure in Rovers run to the National League Play-Off Final at Wembley Stadium last season, playing 38 times, winning seven man-of-the-match awards and claiming the Supporters' Player of the Year award.

Chairman Dale Vince added: "It's a good opportunity for Charlie and we’re happy to help him take it. Also it’s a good reflection on the club, that players can come here and get opportunities to move up the leagues, we wish him all the best.”
